Chronology of cameras Cornu P

The cameras manufactured or distributed by Cornu, P (Paul Jean Marie), have a very pronounced resemblance. These are horizontal cameras, covered in leather, with a varnished interior front panel and a red leather bellows. The lens and shutter are mounted on a plate that can move vertically along two thin columns. These columns are connected at the base by a wooden piece. This carriage moves on a single rail fixed to the inside of the front panel. The central part of the front panel slides along the axis to fine-tune the extension of the bellows.
The viewfinder is mounted above the camera body and is offset to the side.

The strong resemblance to the Ernemann Heag suggests that part of the camera was subcontracted for manufacturing.

These cameras bear names evoking the dawn of the 20th century. These names (Photo-Siècle, XXème siècle, Nouveau Siècle) were registered by Paul Cornu on April 22, 1899.

__________

This version of the Photo-Siècle is actually a Heag II produced by Ernemann from 1900 to 1907. (At Ernemann, there are at least 11 cameras named Heag II!) Compared to another variant, there are some differences: the dimensions of the camera, the locking legs of the front panel, and especially the loading system. This model has a door protecting the ground glass.

This particular example is numbered 2202.

Although manufactured by Ernemann, the bodies bear the Cornu brand: "P.C. Déposé Paris," as well as the number from Ernemann, in this case 80644, a figure that no French manufacturer can claim.
